The Irish Islands Marine Resource Organisation (IIMRO) is a fishery producer organisation and community cooperative representing the offshore island communities of Ireland. Our mission is to support sustainable livelihoods, promote environmental conservation, and preserve the unique cultural heritage of our islands.
IIMRO works closely with local fishers, marine stakeholders, and policymakers to advocate for fair and sustainable management of marine resources. We focus on critical areas such as fisheries, marine protected area designations, offshore renewable energy development and the safeguarding of traditional knowledge and practices.
Through research, community engagement, and policy advocacy, IIMRO empowers islanders to play a key role in shaping the future of Ireland’s marine environment. Together, we aim to build resilient island communities and protect the biodiversity and cultural richness of our coasts for generations to come.

Advocate for fair and equitable access to marine resources, promoting low impact fishing practices that protect biodiversity while securing livelihoods for island fishers. - Marine Conservation
Promote the protection of marine ecosystems conservation initiatives that balance environmental preservation with community needs. - Community Empowerment
Strengthen island communities by advocating for their voices in marine policy-making and fostering education, training, and capacity-building opportunities. - Preservation of Cultural Heritage

Our Mission
Currently IIMRO is advocating for equitable access to our fishery resource, managing the transition to digitisation in fisheries and marine spatial planning and promoting low impact fisheries in fisheries management.
